Canada's World Cup history
Canada first qualified for a World Cup in 1986 in Mexico — their only appearance for 36 years. They played three matches: lost 1-0 to France, lost 2-0 to the USSR, lost 2-0 to Hungary. Zero goals scored. The squad was primarily North American-based players; the professional game in Canada was nascent.
The 2022 Qatar World Cup changed everything. Canada qualified for the first time since 1986, losing decisively in qualification 0-16 in one infamous early stretch before restructuring under John Herdman. In Qatar, they took a 1-0 lead against Belgium before losing, beat Morocco on points before elimination. The generation of Davies, David, Buchanan, Millar and Larin is the best Canada has ever produced.
